Europe generates close to 90 million tons of bio-waste every year with 60% resulting from food waste. In light of the upcoming 2024 EU regulation that will impose a separate collection for bio-waste, IFWC has conducted a survey on over 1 000 Hospitality and Food Service sites.

While almost all sites have a waste sorting policy, biowaste is segregated completly in less than 20% of the cases.

A lots of efforts are on-going with the support of IFWC to tackle and address the need for more space, infrastructure and training.
